"Healthcare Quality and Safety Data Directory - A Guide to Data Collections to support health service safety and quality improvement" (The Directory) is a key initiative of the Victorian Quality Council (VQC).

Providing improved access to better data is one component of a strategic approach to reducing the risk of harm and improving health care safety and quality in Victoria, including: Establishing a Safety and Quality Framework, Involving consumers in improving safety and quality, Educating on safety and quality and Responding to Known Problems and Risks.

The purpose of The Directory is to assist health services by identifying data collection which may be useful to support support quality and safety improvement initiatives. The Directory contains details of data collections that have been evaluated as the most relevant to assist health services to improve the quality and safety of health care. This online directory allows users to conduct a variety of searches based on relevant clinical area, geographical scope, timeframe or type of information required.

The Directory provides information on various data collections that can support health services to improve the quality and safety of health care. The results of the data collections' evaluation should be viewed in the context of the needs of all potential users of the data for quality and safety monitoring, direct clinical care, clinical governance and administrative quality review and planning.
